The first and second days of our ascent were spent putting on and taking off rain gear; we were after all walking through the clouds. The lower part of the mountain was covered in giant rain forest trees, a lush flowery understory, sinuous vines, and a fine coating of moss to top it all off...my ideal playground. As we gained elevation the trees thinned out and we had to negotiate an endless maze of shrubs, moss, lichens, volcanic rock outcrops, and billowing mists.
