Our headaches acted as altimeters, and our heart beats set an inverse pace for our feet. Every time I stopped to take a photo I got nauseous and dizzy, which was good motivation for continuing our trek, but an unfortunate condition to try and take a decent photo (I was in no condition to think about adjusting my ISO with the rising of the sun). Our ascent was timed in perfect accordance with the sunrise. The sun exploded above the clouds in a kaleidoscope of brilliant colors just in time to raise our spirits, banish our headaches, and highlight our final steps to the summit of the Uhuru Peak on Mt Kilimanjaro...19,340 ft.
